Person-Centred Counselling

At Chippenham Counselling Practice, I offer a Person-Centred approach to counselling, an approach grounded in empathy, acceptance and authenticity. It’s built on the belief that every individual has the inner capacity to grow, change and reach their full potential, given the right supportive environment

Based in Pewsham, Chippenham, I offer both in-person and online counselling for adults aged 18+, providing a calm, confidential space to explore what’s happening in your life and what might help you move forward.

Understanding the Person-Centred Approach

Developed by psychologist Carl Rogers, the Person-Centred model is based on the idea that you are the expert on your own experience. Rather than analysing or directing, the counsellor offers three core conditions: empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence (genuineness). These allow you to safely explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement.

Through this process, many people rediscover their self-worth, develop greater self-understanding, and find the confidence to make authentic life choices.

How It Works in Practice

In a Person-Centred session, the focus is entirely on you; what you feel, think and experience in the present moment. My role is to listen deeply, reflect and help you uncover your own answers. The process is gentle but often profound, helping you reconnect with your emotions and your true self.

This approach can be especially helpful if you’ve lost touch with who you are, feel self-critical, or have been living according to others’ expectations rather than your own.

Why This Approach May Help

Person-Centred counselling is particularly effective for:

Low self-esteem or lack of confidence

Relationship difficulties

Stress, anxiety or low mood

Times of transition or identity change

Sessions take place in my quiet counselling room in Pewsham, Chippenham, or online if you prefer remote support.

Why Choose This Approach?

I’m trained as an Integrative Humanistic counsellor, meaning I draw on several evidence-based approaches but always through a Humanistic lens, one that values compassion, authenticity and personal growth.

My counselling room in Pewsham, Chippenham provides a private, peaceful environment for in-person work, and I also offer online sessions for those further afield. Clients come from across Wiltshire, including Calne, Corsham and Melksham, seeking a supportive space to regain clarity and confidence.

What Next?

If you’re seeking a counselling experience where you’ll be truly heard and accepted as you are, the Person-Centred approach may be the right fit.
