My Approach to Counselling

At Chippenham Counselling Practice, I believe that counselling should be a safe, collaborative space where you feel listened to, understood, and supported — not judged or analysed. Every client brings their own story, and my approach is to work with you as a unique individual, adapting my methods to fit your needs.

I draw upon several evidence-based counselling approaches, blending them to offer a flexible, integrative way of working. Whether you prefer a structured method such as CBT, a reflective style such as Psychodynamic, or a gentle, self-exploratory approach like Humanistic or Person-Centred counselling, our sessions will always move at your pace and with your goals in mind.

An Integrative, Humanistic Foundation

My practice is primarily Humanistic and Integrative, meaning that I bring together techniques from different schools of thought rather than following one single model. The Humanistic view focuses on personal growth and self-awareness, helping you reconnect with your strengths and sense of self.

This integrative approach allows us to work with both your present experiences and your past influences, while developing tools that can support you in daily life.

The Counselling Approaches I Use

Below are some of the therapeutic approaches I draw from. You can click each one to learn more about how it works and how it might help:

Humanistic Counselling
A whole-person approach focused on growth, self-awareness, and achieving your potential.

Person-Centred Counselling
A gentle, empathetic approach that values your self-worth and ability to find your own answers.

Psychodynamic Counselling
Exploring how early experiences influence present behaviour and emotional patterns.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A structured, practical approach to changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.

Phenomenological Counselling
Focusing on your perception of events to gain new perspectives and clarity.

Existential Counselling
Exploring life’s big questions around meaning, freedom and choice.

Mindfulness-Based Counselling
Using awareness and presence to reduce stress and improve emotional balance.

Each of these approaches offers different insights and tools, and together they form a flexible framework that adapts to your unique situation.

Working Together

You don’t need to know which approach is “right” for you before starting therapy. We’ll talk about what feels most comfortable and helpful during our first sessions, and your needs may evolve as you move through the process.

The aim is not to fit you into a model, but to create a therapeutic relationship that supports real, lasting change, one built on empathy, honesty, and collaboration.

Sessions are available in person from my private counselling room in Pewsham, Chippenham, or online for those who prefer remote support.
