Counselling for Addictions
When habits feel out of control, it can be frightening to admit how much they’ve taken over. At Chippenham Counselling Practice, I work with adults aged 18+ to explore the emotional roots of addiction—whether that’s alcohol, food, gambling, pornography, or other compulsive behaviours. Sessions are available in-person at Pewsham, Chippenham or online.
Understanding addiction
Addiction often begins as a coping strategy; something that numbs pain, fills a void or offers temporary relief. Over time, it can create shame, secrecy and self-criticism, reinforcing the very feelings that fuel it. You may have tried to stop many times but find yourself returning to the same cycle. Recognising the problem is the first step toward breaking it.
How Counselling Helps
In counselling, we look beneath the surface of your behaviour to understand what drives it. My integrative humanistic approach focuses on the underlying emotions and unmet needs that sustain addiction. We’ll explore healthier coping strategies, build self-compassion and gradually reduce shame.
In a calm, non-judgemental space, you can talk openly without fear of criticism.
