Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, structured approach that helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings and actions influence each other. At Chippenham Counselling Practice, I offer CBT-informed sessions to help adults identify unhelpful thinking patterns and build healthier coping strategies.

Based in Pewsham, Chippenham, I offer both in-person and online counselling for adults aged 18+, providing a calm, confidential space to explore what’s happening in your life and what might help you move forward.

Understanding  CBT

CBT is based on the idea that while we can’t always control what happens to us, we can learn to change how we think about it, and how we respond.

For example, when a negative thought appears (“I’ll fail anyway”), it can trigger feelings of sadness or anxiety and influence behaviour (avoidance). By recognising and challenging these patterns, you can start to break the cycle.

How It Works in Practice

In counselling, we explore your automatic thoughts and beliefs, then test them gently against reality. You’ll learn tools to question self-critical or catastrophic thinking and replace it with more balanced perspectives.

Over time, CBT helps you manage anxiety, boost self-confidence and reduce overwhelm.

Why This Approach May Help

CBT can be especially effective for:

Anxiety and panic

Depression or low motivation

Stress management

Confidence and self-talk

I integrate CBT techniques within a warm, Humanistic framework, blending practical tools with empathy and understanding.
