Psychodynamic Counselling
At Chippenham Counselling Practice, I use aspects of the Psychodynamic approach to help adults understand how early experiences shape current thoughts, feelings and relationships. This approach explores the deeper, often unconscious connections between past and present, helping you make sense of patterns that may have felt beyond your control.
Based in Pewsham, Chippenham, I offer both in-person and online counselling for adults aged 18+, providing a calm, confidential space to explore what’s happening in your life and what might help you move forward.
Understanding the Psychodynamic Approach
Psychodynamic counselling is rooted in the idea that our childhood relationships and experiences influence the way we think, feel and relate as adults. Sometimes, unresolved conflicts or unmet emotional needs become buried but continue to affect how we behave today.
Through counselling, these hidden patterns can surface and be understood, leading to lasting change. It’s not about blame, it’s about insight and understanding.
How It Works in Practice
In sessions, we explore your thoughts, emotions, dreams and memories in a confidential, reflective space. You may notice certain recurring themes; in relationships, work, or self-perception. By gently examining these, you can gain awareness of what drives them and learn to respond differently.
This can be especially powerful for those who feel “stuck” in repeating patterns or who sense their reactions are stronger than situations warrant.
Why This Approach May Help
Psychodynamic counselling may be particularly helpful for:
Long-standing anxiety or depression
Relationship or attachment difficulties
Unexplained sadness, anger or guilt
Patterns of self-sabotage or low self-worth
Sessions take place in my private counselling room in Pewsham, Chippenham, or online.
