My Approach

I work in a collaborative and integrative way which looks at the whole person, acknowledging everyone is unique and takes into account both emotional & physical needs. Using an integrative approach allows various psychological models, theories and therapeutic styles to be used, enabling therapy to be personalised to suit you.

Psycho-education plays a big part in helping you understand yourself better, whilst recognising the belief everybody has the resources within them to change.

My Integrative training enables me to draw on a range of modalities:

Humanistic

The Humanistic approach focuses on the individual as a whole and encourages individuals to think about their feelings and take responsibility for their thoughts and actions. The emphasis is on self-development and achieving your highest potential rather than on problematic behaviour.

Person- Centred

This modality believes that given the right conditions, a person can reach their full potential and become their true self. This approach emphasises self-worth and values and helps individuals reconnect with their true selves in a non-judgmental, empathetic and accepting environment.

Psychodynamic

As adults, how we are in our lives can be linked to our childhood experiences. Our behaviour can have a deep- rooted cause, normally unconscious, and the aim in counselling is to understand the connections between your past experience’s and your current problems.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT focuses on how we think, feel, and behave and how our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect our feelings and actions. CBT can help us be aware of these and learn to challenge our self- critical voice and negative thinking style & behaviours.

Phenomenological

A Phenomenological approach looks at an individual’s perception and experience of a situation or event, rather than its external reality. This approach helps you to understand why you see things in this way and discover more helpful ways of thinking and behaving.

Existential

Existential Psychology believes that life has no essential (given) meaning and you have to make your own sense of the world. This approach explores & confronts the inner conflict and anxiety individuals may experience when confronted with life’s inevitable ultimate concerns – Death, Isolation, Meaninglessness & Freedom and its responsibilities – enabling you to make decisions about how to deal with life problems in your own way.

Mindfulness

As humans, we have a tendency to work on autopilot a lot of the time, not allowing ourselves to be fully present. A mindfulness approach emphasizes being in the moment with a non-judgemental awareness, helping us to recognise negative & habitual reactions and be able to see situations with more clarity and respond more effectively.
